The History of St. Francis House and who we are today
St. Francis House Seattlewas established in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi to be a presence in Seattle to serve those in need and to inspire simplicity and charity in its volunteers and those they serve. We have been in existence in Seattle since 1967 and served clients out of a small storefront on Yesler Avenue. We are now located at169-12th Avenueon the ground floor of Plymouth Housing's Bertha Pitts Campbell building. Although our basic services have remained consistent, our clientele has evolved over time. Since the pandemic, our client numbers have doubled (to nearly 30,000 annually) due to increased homelessness and an increasing immigrant population.
St. Francis House serves single men, women and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. We are open Monday through Friday (10am - 2pm). There is a hospitality area where our clients can have something to eat and drink and take shelter from inclement weather for a period of time each day. We also offer clothing, backpacks, sleeping bags, food items, toiletries, bus passes, baby supplies and household items. Clients can shop once every 30 days. We offer limited financial assistance on a case-by-case basis. All services are offered free of charge. Only a valid ID is required.
