This Sunday’s second reading is the rock of stewardship. It begins with the above foundational statement, moves on to “Welcome the Word,” and ends with an exhortation to action.
“If it does not please you to serve the LORD, decide today whom you will serve, the gods your fathers served beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose country you are now dwelling. As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua to the People of Israel, Joshua 24:15
Brothers and sisters: When that which is mortal clothes itself with immortality, then the word that is written shall come about: Death is swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? St. Paul, 1 Cor 15:54b-55
