Today’s reading from Paul immediately follows last week’s passages about God delivering all to disobedience so that God may show mercy.
The preceding verses, 34 and 35, are based in Isaiah and Job: “For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been God’s counselor? Who has given the Lord anything that he may be repaid?”
Paul repeatedly insists that grace is a gift given freely by God. It cannot be earned. God does not repay good behavior. Sometimes that hurts because we feel we should be rewarded.
We need to accept God’s will and act accordingly. We are God’s hands and feet, and it is up to us to use those to build God’s Kingdom. Now! Today!
