Last Sunday St Therese hosted a Vigil for Social Justice in our parking lot. It is now available on our Facebook page.
Before I mention a bit about the speakers, I would like to mention the stewardship efforts of those who put this on. In two weeks. Sam and Terri Lawrence recently returned to our parish after a 15-year hiatus. They jumped right into the Stewardship Commission and the Events Committee. If you are returning or new to the parish get involved in a ministry! It is the best way to quickly become a member of the community!
I would also like to mention the efforts of John Lewis in this. John initiated our Immigration and Muslim Outreach Committee. His outreach efforts enabled him to invited Alaa Badr of the Muslim Association of Puget Sound and Rainer Waldman Adkins of Kadima, a Jewish community, to this event. John saw a need and created events and efforts to fulfill it.
A few teasers from our speakers:
Ms Wanda Herndon: “I Cry!” Ms Herndon is a toni-winning playwright. This is her first poem and is published at seattletimes.com/opinion/i-cry/.
Judge Judy Hightower: “The time has come for that all-out war against the triple evils of racism, economic exploitation and war.” Judge Hightower’s speech was a poetic piece of performance art rising from her spirituality into a call for action.
Ms Dominique Stephens: “This is the time to get uncomfortable! . . . We are in the position to break the generational curse of racism.”
Br. Alaa Badr: “The order in societal matters must be Justice first.” Br. Badr spoke about the family of humanity, the glory of our diversity and our nobility as arising from how we treat one another as taught in the Koran
Mr. Marlon Brown: “Sometimes the leader you are looking for is you!”
Don’t miss the incredible the vocal performances of Tommie Burton on “We Shall Overcome” and of Raedene Copeland on “Lift Every Voice and Sing”!

Finally, join the Social Justice Commission! The Commission has but three members. It needs at least five more. If there was ever a moment that St Therese needs a Social Justice Commission it is now! If you want to work for justice, email Trisha Tinsley at citizencoach@gmail.com.
