What is A Catholic Marriage?
Holy Matrimony is the sacrament of the Christian Family. Marriage is gift the spouses give to one another with God as their first witness. It is a rite in which a couple make a covant of love and support to one another, changing their relationship for the rest of their lives. It is a vocation.
May I Have My Marriage At St. Therese?
At least one member of the couple is required to be registered parishioner in order to have their marriage preparation at St. Therese. If both are members of other parishes, a letter must be received from their own parish granting permission for the marriage to be conducted here indicating that they are registered and have participated in that parish’s marriage preparation class. There is a fee for non-parishioners.
Marriages most commonly are scheduled for Sundays during our regular Masses or Saturdays. There is an exception during Lent, which, as a season of solemnity, we refrain from celebrations of such joy and hold them during a more appropriate time of the year.
What Does The Preparation Process Look Like?
St. Therese requires couples register for preparation at least nine months prior to their planned marriage date. This allows sufficient time to complete paper work, complete the Prepare-Enrich survey, and attend 4 one-hour sessions. This sessions, co-led with couples from the parish, are typically on week nights or Sunday afternoons.
Do Both Spouses Need To Be Catholic?
No, only one member of the couple needs to be Catholic to marry in the Church.
