By the grace of God I am what I am. St. Paul, First Letter to the Corinthians 15:10
Happy Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time!
This Sunday is all about being called: Isaiah in a vision by God, Paul by the risen Christ, and Simon Peter by Jesus. None of these people considered themselves worthy of their call, all thought their sins would disqualify them but all went on to be effective (pardon the understatement) declarers of the Word.
“By the grace of God, I am what I am,” says St. Paul. Paul was consumed by the guilt of having persecuted the Church before he met the risen Christ on the road to Damascus. His feeling throughout his ministry was “if I can do this after what I’ve done, anyone can.”
By the grace of God, we all are who we are, and that is children of God, each of us with a part to play in the Body of Christ, in the ministry of the Church. Can you say hello? Become a welcomer. Can you read out loud? Become a lector. Can you sing? Please, please join a choir! Can you dig? Come to a Laudato Si’ party (third Saturday of the month; come late leave early!) Can you write? Contact me or Diane Figaro. Do you like to take pictures, contact Diane. Can you run your computer? Nicole needs help with the livestream. There’s a part for everyone!
As in many schools all across the nation, St T’s is experiencing a staffing shortfall. You don’t have to have the chops to get into the classroom, though that would be ideal. You do have to be patient and kind. If you can help, call the school at 206.324.0460.
